Seem to have got on a nice spot I'm trying for a big barbel but im using a fair old lump of meat and still the 4-6 lbs fish are having it.
1 1/2 inch lumps are taken no problems but doesn't seem right using bigger lumps.

I use fairly small pieces of punched meat, but I have heard of anglers using huge chunks the size of a matchbox or bigger and catching fish. Even a medium sized barbel or chub has a pretty big mouth, so you would need a massive chunk to select for the bigger specimens. Do you flavour your meat at all? I use plain Spam, but I know some people use garlic Spam, or flavour it themselves using curry powder etc.

Well done for catching those barbel - I bet the eels were a pain to unhook though! I was at MHP on Friday, nothing big, but a mixed bag of chub, roach and dace on trotted/legered sweetcorn.

We done especially on the 11lb fish - I've yet to get a double from the Wandle. Is it a particular swim you visit, or do you rove? On the MHP stretch, there are several swims I regard as the best, but if I don't catch in one after an hour or so I will try the others.

It's a particular swim, not the nicest to fish in but the results are well worth it.
Eels seem to be plentiful in the park and their a bit of a pain but it could be worth seeing what sort of weights they get to.
Shame I can't have a go in mhp,I did some work in garden centre and had a good look around and it looked pretty good.

It's a bit like that on the best MHP swim - litter and rats, but it seems to be more consistent for barbel than any other. I was fishing there last week, and had a couple of barbel on meat, but both only small fish. The biggest was about 4lb, but it fought well.

I have been getting down on a regular basis and been catching a few barbel the best of which was just over 10lbs.had the odd chub and eel but no winter carp yet.its bloody cold at the minute so short sessions are what I've been doing, sometimes even half hour after work if I catch a decent fish I'll have a few more casts and pack up.
Anyone else been getting out on the banks?

I've had a quiet patch recently but have really put that to rest with a couple of cracking barbel .
Still fishing mostly in very short sessions and only evenings, its been pretty slow but i caught 1 barbel of around 12-13 lbs and that's not an exaggeration.it was a smashing fish with a tail the size of my hand .then just today i caught a 10lbs barbel from a different spot with the first cast and within 10 minutes.as good days go it was pretty decent ,i packed up straight after and went home,i know one person who wasn't too happy.
